What a brain and body MRI scan does not detect:

The Silver Brain and Body MRI scan does not look for and is not able to detect pathology as follows:

  • Heart disease Coronary artery disease, Heart valve disease, rhythm problems, Peripheral vascular disease
  • Lung disease, Lung cancer, COPD, asthma, or other chronic lung disease, Chest infections
  • Breast cancer, Breast implant complications
  • Bowel / digestive Bowel cancer or bowel polyps (requiring a colonoscopy, virtual colonoscopy or ColoAlert), Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis), Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Small bowel disease, Hernias
  • Prostate cancer (requires a blood test or Multi-Parametric Prostate MRI scan)
  • Arthritis in hips, knees, ankles, shoulder or other joints (these would require specific joint X-ray or MRI joint by joint)
  • Major kidney failure (requires a blood test), Small kidney stones (renal calculus), Bladder function problems
  • Early liver disease, Fatty liver, Hepatitis, Alcohol-related liver disease without major structural change
  • Gynaecological conditions Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Pelvic inflammatory disease, Subtle causes of pelvic pain, Fertility-related conditions, Hormonal disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Anything not listed in the above able to detect list of vital organs is excluded and not reported on in the MRI scan.
  • Cancer in very early stages may not be detected, e.g. very small tumours, cysts or Microscopic disease. Targeted cancer screening may be beneficial if you are worried about a specific type of cancer.

The brain & body scan does not include the heart, lungs, breasts, arms or legs.

Can anyone have a full body MRI?

Yes, anyone can choose to have a preventative health screeening. However it may not be recommended for certain people who have:

  • A cochlear implant

  • Any metal in your body (like a pacemaker)

  • Experienced allergic reactions to similar procedures previously

  • Kidney problems

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

How long does a full body MRI scan take?

A full body scan can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours. You will be informed of how long your scan will take when booking your appointment and which scan package you opt for.

How long do I have to wait for my Full body MRI results?

Here at Pall Mall, we aim to process our reports within 1o working days. However, sometimes operational processes can delay this. Please do not worry, if there are any delays, It does not automatically mean something is wrong with your results.

Is an MRI safe?

Substantial research has been undertaken as to whether the magnetic properties and radio signals during an MRI used can cause issues to the human body. No evidence has been found to indicate there is a risk. Additionally, MRI is a non-invasive procedure, making it one of the safest options available.

Can I get additional areas of the body scanned?

Yes. If you would like to get tests for other areas of the body that aren't included, please mention this to your specialist at one of your consultations.
