Cellulite on leg - Thighplasty

Could a thigh lift be right for you?

For patients with loose, sagging skin on the thighs, a thigh lift (thighplasty) can help create a smoother, firmer contour. In some cases, this may also reduce the appearance of cellulite, particularly when skin laxity contributes to its visibility.

Several factors can contribute to the development of cellulite on the thighs, including:

  • The natural structure of the skin and underlying connective tissue
  • Hormonal influences, including oestrogen levels
  • Genetics and inherited skin characteristics
  • Body weight and fat distribution
  • Ageing and loss of skin elasticity
  • Lifestyle factors such as smoking
  • Natural changes that occur over time
  • Reduced circulation

Types of thigh lift surgery, including bilateral thighplasty

There are four main types of thigh lift surgery; medial thigh lift, mini thigh lift, bilateral thigh lift, and vertical thigh lift. You aren’t expected to know which procedure to choose alone; we’d always recommend booking in for a free surgeon consultation where you and your surgeon can choose your treatment plan together.

Here are the four main types of thighplasty:

Medial (Inner) Thigh Lift

Involves an incision in the groin, which may extend towards the back of the thigh. Treats the upper and inner thigh.

Mini Thigh Lift

Uses a shorter groin incision, suitable for mild skin laxity. Treats your inner thigh only.

Outer (Bilateral) Thigh Lift

The incision begins in the upper groin and continues around the hip area. Treats your waist and bum.

Vertical (Spiral) Thigh Lift

Requires a longer incision along the inner thigh, ideal for more significant excess skin.Treats your front, back, and inner thigh.

Thighplasty: FAQs

Thighplasty scars after 1 year: what do they look like?

After one year, thighplasty scars generally look flatter, lighter, and less noticeable. Aside from the scars being more pink and less visible, they won’t be visible to most people anyway.

During a thigh lift, your incisions are made in discreet places (such as in natural grooves of the body), and you can’t usually see them when wearing underwear or swimwear. Remember that everybody is different, and your scars will heal at a varying rate compared to another person.

What’s a scarless thigh lift?

If you have a little loose skin (rather than a lot) and are close to your goal weight, you may want to consider a scarless thigh lift – also known as a non-surgical thigh lift.

This procedure uses ultrasound and radio frequency rather than incisions, lifting, and liposuction. If you would like more information on the scarless thigh lift, kindly get in touch with our expert team today.

Which surgeons specialise in thighplasty near me?

At Pall Mall Cosmetics, we have two expert surgeons who do thighplasty procedures: Mr Hussain and Ms Choukairi. Both surgeons have decades of experience and top qualifications. Mr Hussain and Ms Choukairi operate from our Liverpool and Manchester clinics; book your free consultation here.

Thighplasty vs thigh lift: is there a difference?

A thighplasty and thigh lift are the same procedure; `thighplasty` is just the medical term for a thigh lift!

At Pall Mall Cosmetics, we use both terms simultaneously. If you prefer one over the other, kindly let your surgeon know.

What common side effects should I expect?
  • Constipation/ Bloating

    • For constipation/bloating, you can drink orange/prune juice to lessen it and if you're still unable to go to the toilet, you can take herbal laxatives as well.

  • Sleepiness

  • Nausea (from taking the pain relief medication)

    • if you're able to tolerate it, you should be fine continuing it. If not, feel free to let me know so I can liaise with your surgeon if we'll need to change your medication or stop it altogether.

  • Swelling

    • This is one of the last factors to fully settle in all types of surgeries (can take up to 6months-1 year). If you're not allergic to pineapples or cranberries, they have a lot of antioxidant properties to them that could help reduce inflammation in the long run.
Understanding thighplasty scars and how they heal

Your thighplasty scars will follow the natural grooves of your body, so they will not be visible unless you look with the intention of seeing them. The scars will also sit in places you can’t see while wearing swimwear or knickers. For more information on what your scars will look like, skip to the types of thigh lift surgery section of the page.
