The CQC Inspection - Overview

The CQC inspected the hospital ( Pall Mall Diagnostic and Treatment Centre) in December 2024. While they rated us Good in the Effective, Caring and Responsive domains, they rated us Safe and Well-Led domains as Requires Improvement.

What the CQC found and what we have done since

Safe domain

The CQC highlighted a small number of issues relating to medicines management, fire safety, infection control and locked doors.
These included two medicines that were just out of date, a partially blocked fire exit, and some areas where doors or storage should have been locked.

All of these issues were corrected immediately during or shortly after the inspection, and evidence was shared with the CQC at the time.


We also strengthened daily checks, refreshed staff reminders, and enhanced our monitoring processes to ensure these improvements are sustained.

Well-Led domain

The CQC noted that some of our governance systems were not applied consistently across all teams.

We have since tightened version control of policies, strengthened audit processes, and improved how we share learnings from incidents with colleagues.

Leadership visibility and staff engagement have also been further enhanced through more regular site walkarounds and team interactions.

What has remained strong

The report recognised several areas of excellent performance:

  • Patients described our staff as kind, professional and reassuring.
  • Safeguarding and recruitment processes were rated safe and robust.
  • Theatre teamwork, daily safety huddles, and infection control in theatres were praised, with audits showing 100% compliance.
  • Training compliance was very strong, particularly in equality, diversity and autism awareness.
Our ongoing commitment

While we have already addressed the immediate issues raised, we are also continuing to strengthen our systems and processes to ensure consistent standards every day.

Our goal is for patients to experience safe, well-led and compassionate care at every visit, and we are confident that improvements already in place will be reflected at the next inspection.

Our staff are consistently proactive in supporting patients to manage their own health and maximise their independence. We listen to our patients and take their concerns seriously so that we can make improvements where needed. Our team also has the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to deliver effective care and treatment.

We also take great pride in ensuring our patients are treated with kindness, respect, and compassion. We recognise that everyone has different needs, which is why we strive to be as inclusive as possible; providing additional support where needed and making sure no one feels left out or excluded. As part of this commitment, we also ensure our patients are involved in decisions about their care and treatment so they can make informed choices about their health.
