What is an Abdomen MRI scan?

An abdomen MRI scan uses magnetic fields to create detailed images of your internal organs. It helps diagnose liver, kidney, or pancreas conditions without radiation.

You may benefit from an abdomen MRI if you are experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Ongoing or unexplained abdominal pain
  • Abnormal liver or kidney function tests
  • Weight loss, bloating or digestive changes
  • A lump or mass detected on ultrasound or CT
  • A known liver, pancreatic, or kidney condition needing review

Frequently asked questions

Our expert team is always on hand to help answer any queries and arrange appointments with our specialist consultants.

Is an Abdomen MRI safe?

Yes. MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves, not ionising radiation. If contrast is required, we will assess suitability and discuss that with you beforehand.

Will it be uncomfortable?

Our wide-bore scanners reduce claustrophobia, and our radiographers support you throughout.

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral is required. You can self-refer and book your Abdomen MRI directly with us, ensuring a fast and simple process.

When will I get my results?

Results are typically available within a few working days, followed by a free GP review call.

Can I have a copy of my images?

Radiology images can be sent when requested. We are unable to send radiology images directly to NHS general practitioners; image transfers to NHS services must follow established clinical pathways and secure exchange platforms. We do not provide printed copies, postal delivery, or screenshots of imaging; images are sent via electronic transfer using Image Exchange Portal (IEP). Images will only be released to patients or third parties once the formal report has been issued
