What’s the difference between a Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck?
While both a Mini Tummy Tuck and a full Tummy Tuck aim to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, there are some key differences between these procedures:
Less invasive: a Mini Tummy Tuck targets smaller areas of excess skin and fat, and usually does not involve tightening of the abdominal muscles.
Smaller incision: the incision for a Mini Tummy Tuck is just a few inches long, whereas the incision for a full Tummy Tuck runs the width of the abdomen, from hip to hip.
Shorter recovery time: as it’s a less invasive procedure, the recovery time for a Mini Tummy Tuck is shorter than for a full Tummy Tuck
No navel repositioning: The belly button may be repositioned during a full Tummy Tuck, depending on the extent of the surgery - this is not usually the case with a Mini Tummy Tuck.
During your initial consultation with Pall Mall, our surgeons will advise whether a Mini Tummy Tuck is the most appropriate procedure for you, based on your desired look and what you want to achieve from the surgery.

What happens during a Mini Tummy Tuck?
Our expert team will be on hand to guide you through every step of your Mini Tummy Tuck surgery, from your initial consultation with the surgeon, all the way through to your post-op appointments and aftercare.
Free, no obligation consultation
The first step in the process is to book a free, no obligation consultation with one of our surgeons. During the consultation, your surgeon will examine your abdominal area, discuss your aims for the surgery, and advise whether a Mini Tummy Tuck is the most suitable procedure for you. It’s also your chance to ask our team any questions about the surgery.
Pre-operation
Once you’ve had your initial consultation and booked your Mini Tummy Tuck, we’ll invite you to a pre-operative assessment. We will conduct some medical checks to make sure you’re fit and healthy enough to undergo surgery - this may include tests for MRSA and some blood and urine tests.
At this point, we’ll also take some photographs of your abdomen, so there’s a record of your progress and the results of your procedure.
Surgery
Your Mini Tummy Tuck surgery will be performed at our CQC-registered private hospital in Newton-le-Willows. We will send you your admission time around 24-48 hours before your procedure - this is the time we ask you to arrive at the hospital, and not the time your surgery will take place.
At the hospital, we’ll ask for your final consent to proceed and you’ll then be sedated with a general anaesthetic for the procedure. Our team will be there to support you, answer any remaining questions, and ensure you’re comfortable throughout your stay.
Post-surgery
You will usually be able to go home the day after your surgery. Your overnight stay and the meals we provide are all covered in the cost of the procedure.
You won’t be able to drive after your surgery, so you’ll need to ensure you’ve arranged alternative travel. Ideally, have someone else drive you home or take a taxi.
Following your surgery, you will be given a post-op instruction leaflet, which will have details of all the steps you need to take to ensure a smooth recovery. We will also give you pain relief, dressings, and a support garment for your abdomen.
Aftercare
Leading up to the day of the procedure, your surgeon will give you all the information you need about the recovery process and when you can expect to get back to your usual routine.
We will arrange two post-op appointments for one week and six weeks after your surgery. This will give us a chance to check how your recovery is going and also gives you the opportunity to express any concerns or ask any questions. If you feel you need further support outside of these appointments, you can contact our nursing team 24/7 and arrange further appointments if required.

How to know whether a Mini Tummy Tuck is right for you
If you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable due to excess skin around your abdomen, a Mini Tummy Tuck can help restore your confidence. A Mini Tummy Tuck may be right for you if:
You have a small amount of excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen, which can occur after weight loss, pregnancy, or as a natural part of ageing.
You’re within a healthy weight range or near your ideal weight and want to smooth or reshape the skin of your lower abdomen.
You have difficulty losing small areas of fat in your abdomen despite exercise and a healthy diet.
There are several types of Tummy Tuck surgery, and your surgeon will advise which one is most suitable for you during your initial consultation.

Common questions about Mini Tummy Tuck surgery
Our expert team is always on hand with help and advice about Tummy Tuck surgery. Get answers to the most common questions about the procedure below.
How long does Mini Tummy Tuck surgery take?
You’ll usually be in theatre for around two hours for a Mini Tummy Tuck. In most cases, you will be able to go home the next day.
What is the typical recovery time after a Mini Tummy Tuck?
The recovery time for a Mini Tummy Tuck is around 4-6 weeks. We advise you to avoid any exercise or strenuous activities during this time, and avoid driving for the first 2-3 weeks following your surgery.
Does a Mini Tummy Tuck leave scarring?
The incision for a Mini Tummy Tuck is smaller than for a full Tummy Tuck but there will still be a horizontal scar on your lower abdomen, roughly the same size as a C-section scar. It will fade gradually over the 12 months following your procedure, but won’t disappear completely.
Is a Mini Tummy Tuck painful?
As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, you may experience some discomfort following your surgery. We will give you pain relief to take home to help manage this - any pain and swelling should start to subside after a few days.
Our nurses will check your wounds and make sure you’re healing well at your one-week and six-week post-op appointments. If you’re feeling pain that cannot be controlled with pain medication, please contact our nurses.
What should I do to prepare for a Mini Tummy Tuck?
It’s important for your surgery that your skin is clear and ready to be operated on. We ask you to remove any makeup, avoid using fake tan, and remove any jewellery or piercings before arriving at hospital for your surgery. Read our guide on how to prepare for cosmetic surgery for more information.
Are there any risks or complications associated with Mini Tummy Tuck surgery?
As with any surgery, there are some risks associated with a Mini Tummy Tuck if the recovery process doesn’t go to plan: there’s a risk of infection, poor wound healing, or scarring. It's important to follow your surgeon's aftercare instructions closely to minimise these risks and ensure a smooth recovery.
Can I combine a Mini Tummy Tuck with other cosmetic procedures?
Yes, many of our patients choose to undergo more than one procedure at the same time to attain their desired results. For example, a ‘Mummy Makeover’ combines a Tummy Tuck with procedures like Breast Enlargement, Breast Reduction, or Liposuction to help you feel more confident after pregnancy and childbirth.
